Sandra Rivera – La huelga de funcionarios convocada para el próximo martes 21 de octubre ha sido cancelada, así que las escuelas de la ciudad permanecerán abiertas dentro de su horario habitual. Los trabajadores, que pedían un incremento salarial de una libra por hora (7,65 libras por hora), han llegado a un acuerdo con la Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), entidad que gestiona las negociaciones.
El sindicato Unison, que representa a unos 9.000 trabajadores en Edimburgo, consultará a sus afiliados la nueva propuesta que se les ha puesto sobre la mesa para concretar si, finalmente, la aceptan o no. Un portavoz de Unison ha comentado: “Los empleados han acordado volver a la fase de negociaciones. Somos consciente del problema de liquidez de las autoridades locales y estamos dispuestos a volver a reunirnos”. “Se va a pagar un salario digno en todas las autoridades locales de Escocia. Se han comprometido a ello”, aseguró.
Los afiliados de Unison tienen hasta el próximo 3 de noviembre para decidir si aceptan o no la nueva propuesta.

The workers, who demand a wage increase of one pound per hour (ƒ7.65ph), have reached an agreement with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), the entity that is managing the negotiations.
Unison, which represents about 9,000 workers in Edinburgh, will consult members on new proposals put forward to decide if they will accept them or not eventually. A Unison spokesman said: “The employers have agreed to go back to the bargaining stage of negotiations. We are sensitive to how cash-strapped local authorities are and we are willing to get back around the table”. “The living wage is going to paid in all local authorities across Scotland – they have committed to that”, he claimed.
Members of Unison will have until 3rd November to decide if they accept or not the new proposal.
