Sandra Rivera – El Scotts Monument de Edimburgo está iluminado con luces rojas desde ayer y hasta el Día de los Veteranos, el martes 11 de noviembre. Sin embargo, el Jardín de la Memoria (Garden of Remembrance) y las luces rojas del monumento son sólo algunos de los eventos que se han organizado para conmemorar los 100 años del inicio de la Primera Guerra Mundial.

Cuadros de honores con los nombres de las personas fallecidas están expuestos en el Ayuntamiento y el Museo de Edimburgo, y el Usher Hall recordará los acontecimientos con el concierto especial Festival of Remembrance. Además, las tiendas de libros acogen lecturas de poemas de guerra y el City Art Centre presenta una exposición de trabajos producidos durante la guerra.
El Lord Provost de la ciudad de Edimburgo Donald Wilson ha comentado: “En la capital, el Desfile de la Commemoración del domingo es un símbolo del recuerdo. Permite a los residentes y a los visitantes tomarse un momento para reflexionar en silencio, para que no los olvidemos, sobre acontecimientos que tuvieron lugar hace 100 años”. “Animo a la gente local de la ciudad a que se unan si pueden para mostrar la gratitud de Edimburgo y el aprecio hacia los enormes sacrificios que han hecho hombres y mujeres valientes–y que siguen realizando cada día en nombre nuestro–.

Sílvia Fernández – Edinburgh’s Scotts Monument was lit up in red last night until Veterans Day on Tuesday 11 November. But the Garden of Remembrance and the red-lighted monument are just a part of the events that will be held in the city to commemorate 100 years of the beginning of the First World War.
Rolls of Honour naming the war dead will be on display at the City Chambers and the Museum of Edinburgh, and the Council’s Usher Hall will be remembering the events of the war with a special Festival of Remembrance concert. In addition, libraries will host war poetry readings and the City Art Centre will also host an exhibition of works produced during the war.
Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh Donald Wilson said: “In the capital, the Remembrance Sunday Parade is a moving mark of remembrance. It allows residents and visitors to take a moment of quiet reflection, lest we forget, on the events that took place 100 years ago”. “I urge local people from the city to join if they can, and show Edinburgh’s united gratitude and appreciation for the enormous sacrifices that have been made – and continue to be made every day on our behalf – by courageous men and women”, he added.
